What you can expect to do here :
- Establish and maintain partnerships and communication to make recommendations and influence Business Operations Leadership (e.g. Office Managers and Real Estate Coordinators etc.) to understand needs, assesses Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) risks and aligns HSE advisory services to support the attainment of primary business goal, which is to prevent injuries mainly through:
- Efficient planning through Risk Assessments, Safe Job Procedures and Practices.
- Selection of hazards controls according to Hierarchy of Controls (HoC) principle
- Consultation and participation of employees
- Behavioural Based Safety interventions
- Support Real Estate construction projects from initial business case development through entire project lifecycle including performing on-site inspection.
- Perform inspections and audits of facilities including offices, labs, warehouses and storage.
- Supports Emergency Response Plan (ERP) risk assessment, including workplace violence; and development of ERP for facilities, including monitoring and annual inspections/audits (i.e., fire extinguishers/lighting), emergency supplies (i.e. first aid, AED, eye wash, etc.), local emergency drills, pandemic preparedness.
- Provide key support through advising on Office HSE issues, Facility construction projects, trend analysis and recommend solutions.
- Provide key support through advising on department related HSE issues, trend analysis and recommend solutions.
- Understand the HSEQ vision, mission, goals and objectives. Make efforts to support and influence the business sectors in which you work to keep those people on point in supporting the HSEQ vision and mission.
- Network with industry and client counterparts to build relationships and credibility in offices in which you support.
- Liaise with the broader HSE team seeking SME advice and program support as required.
- Devise improvement strategies for the people using the leading and lagging data available.
- Listen to and understand the specific needs of your business partners and make recommendations and plans that help them achieve HSE success while staying compliant with WSP standards.
- Follow proper change management processes for plans or procedures developed specifically for your business areas.
- Proactively reach out to people leaders to embed yourself in the business.
- Perform a wide range of HSE advisory duties related to development, administration, and implementation of Projects conducted by the Facilities and Real Estate corporate services involving construction, operation and maintenance activities.
- Review, understand and proactively support the effective and consistent application of HSE Management System (i.e., Policy, Programs, Procedures and Processes).
- Support the WSP Business Operations in identifying training needs, gaps, and training providers.
- Assist with implementation of HSE legal changes and industry best practices.
- Provide HSE mentoring and coaching to our business leaders and professional employees (e.g., Office Leads, Professional Personnel, Worker and Manager Safety Committee Representatives, Real Estate and Facilities Coordinators).
- Work with assigned Safety Committees to support effective performance of committee terms of reference, review of workplace inspection findings and incident investigations, management recommendations and consultations to ensure legislative and corporate requirements are met or exceeded.
- Support business operations performing incident investigations and root cause analysis, identify proper corrective actions, monitor tracking and closure of actions in WSP's online reporting system; and collaborate with HSE Expertise Team (e.g., High Potential investigations), as required.
What you'll bring to WSP :
- Bilingualism (French/English) is required
- Degree, diploma or certificate program from a post-secondary and accredited institution in environment, health and safety (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
- A professional designation such as (CRSP, CRST, CHSO or CHSC) would be an asset.
- 2-5 years of experience related to facilities and/or industrial or construction project safety.
- Intermediate experience level in an HSE role
- Knowledge of Canadian provincial OH&S Acts, regulations and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Autonomy and self-motivated team player.
- Proficient computer skills and thorough understanding of Microsoft office suite.

- Makes decisions on issues/ambiguous matters and provides direction regarding approach and priorities for the team.
- Manages budget for their team/themselves.
- Provides guidance and management advice that has a large impact on cost, efficiency, compliance, service, and quality. (e.g., Decision of findings documented in an Inspection or Audit. Identifying sub-standard conditions or actions against WSP HSE requirements, OHS or Environmental legislation)
Deliverables & Key Performance Indicators :
- Achieve target for number of site visits to perform inspection/audit of facilities including offices, labs, warehouses and storage and Real Estate construction projects as budgeted and set in annual Goals and Objectives (G&O)
- Support Real Estate Team construction projects in all phases
- Completion of HSE Inspection Reports, Audit Reports, HSE Root Cause Analysis Report, and other measured metrics (e.g., inspection or audit record, corrective actions)
- Managing events within the WSP Online Reporting System against measured metrics (e.g., HSE incidents and observations: Timeline to action or close a reported event)
- Cascading and supporting HSE communications, goals and objectives.
- Positive feedback from sector leadership and business partners.
Interactions with :
- Business Operations Leaders (Regional SVP, Office Managers, Facilities and Real Estate Coordinator, etc.), Professionals
- Safety Committee / Representative
- HSE Managers, Advisors, Specialists (MSD, Claims, Radiation, etc.), Expertise Team and Programs Team
- Corporate functions (e.g., Facilities and Real Estate, Fleet, Procurement, Legal, People and Culture, etc.)
Other :
- Role requires frequent travel to laboratories, warehouses, offices or facility sites.
- Travel frequency will be adjusted based with seasonal and business needs.
- Estimated 50% office work and 50% travel/site visits.
