As an Environmental Inspector with WSP you'll be part of a dynamic team, using your expertise to support environmental compliance and sustainability in construction projects across Ontario. What you can expect to do here:
- You'll monitor contractor adherence to environmental commitments, plans, and permit conditions.
- You'll stay updated on environmental monitoring changes and ensure effective enforcement by the construction contractor.
- You'll conduct daily field inspections to verify the implementation of mitigation measures, and document effectiveness of mitigation measures.
- You'll complete and submit daily reports detailing inspection activities and non-compliance findings and escalate critical items as required.
- You'll liaise with the other team members and leaders to report non-compliance findings and verify corrective and adaptive management actions./collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and mitigate environmental risks through field inspections and monitoring.
- You'll stay informed about changes in environmental regulations, permits, internal practices, and the construction schedule.
- You'll document and report environmental incidents or non-compliance issues, including verification of corrective actions.
- You'll participate in daily tailgate meetings with the construction contractor.
- You'll maintain regular communication and coordination with the project and WSP teams.
- You'll participate in weekly meetings with the project and WSP team.
- You'll attend Working Group and Project Update meetings.
- You'll maintain permanent, accurate records of all field inspection activities to support the preparation of Annual Compliance Reports.
- You'll ensure all documentation (e.g., field inspection reports) is organized, accurate, and easily accessible for review and audits.
- The work schedule is estimated to take place as a 20 days on and 10 days off rotation (12 hours per day). During active work shifts, Environmental Inspectors may be based in Thunder Bay, Atikokan, Dryden, or construction camps.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- Post secondary education or experience in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (e.g., CIESC, BSc., Diploma, Certificate etc.).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management/construction monitoring within the utility or construction industry.
- Full G driver's license.
- You enjoy fieldwork and like to work autonomously - think of this as the opposite of your standard 9-5 desk job!
- Understanding of federal and provincial environmental laws and regulations.
- General understanding of the processes involved in large scale construction projects and implementing mitigation measures.
- Experience in contractor oversight, strong communication skills, and expertise in environmental monitoring.
- Comfortable interacting with the public, Indigenous communities, contractors, and co-workers.
- ATV rider safety training completed, and a valid Ontario Pleasure Craft License, considered to be an asset.
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
